The Bowflex SelectTech 560 Review
Bowflex recently revolutionized the adjustable dumbbell industry with the release of their SelectTech 560s. These dumbbells are square, which means they aren’t going to roll away from you when you set them down. They’re also great supports for a variety of body weight exercises, so they truly are a multi-dimensional dumbbell. On top of that, they feature some of the most sophisticated technology we have ever seen with a dumbbell, so they are currently in a class of their own.
We’ll feature the 560’s full range of features below, including their revolutionary Bluetooth capabilities, a first when it comes to adjustable dumbbells.
With that being said, let’s take a look at the core features first, and then we’ll dive into some of the more high-tech capabilities that these SelectTechs provide.

In a first for the world of adjustable dumbbells, Bowflex turned the industry on its head by adding Bluetooth technology to the SelectTech 560s. When you enable the Bluetooth and sync the dumbells with your Apple or Android device, you can track things like weight, and even count your reps and sets. In addition to the tracking capabilities, the app also features an advanced level of video coaching, to help maintain the correct form and posture, but also keeps you motivated and provides a whole suite of workouts that you can complete with these dumbbells.
Why Bluetooth Adjustable Dumbbells?
There are a number of different reasons to buy a set Bowflex 560 Dumbbells, including the fact that they are adjustable. If you’ve spent anytime lifting weights, you know how much space a whole rack of weights and weight lifting equipment can take up. All of those extra weight plates are eliminated when you buy a set of adjustable dumbbells like the 560s. They virtually take up no space, so they can easily be tucked away in the corner of your office, or a room in your home.
I have all of my Bowflex equipment in my small office, and it stays out of the way – this includes the Bowflex bench, a Max Trainer, and a set of adjustable dumbbells. I literally have a whole gym’s worth of equipment right in my office, and because it is sleek and compact, it looks great. Plus, I no longer have an excuse to not workout – everything I need to get in shape is staring me in the face all day long, so I find that I workout more consistently, and more often.
In addition to their space-saving capabilities, adjustable dumbbells are also so much easier to use than a traditional set. You can quickly shift between sets, which is great for anyone doing Pyramid sets, or who just need to add or reduce weight quickly during their workouts. With the SelectTech 560 dumbbells you literally just twist the grip and you can toggle between weight plates – it really is a simple as that!
I haven’t noticed many cons with the 560s, but square dumbbells aren’t going to be for everyone. Some people will prefer the more traditional style of rounded weights, and if that’s the case you should check out the SelectTech 1090s or 552s. Other than their aesthetic design, I suppose the technology component may be annoying to some people.
Other than their aesthetic design, I suppose the technology component may be annoying to some people. Everything seems tech-focused these days, and there are those of us who just want a basic set of weights, without all of the frills. Again, if this is the case then the other Bowflex dumbbells are worth considering. That being said, I personally find the Bluetooth capabilities to be a cool add-on, and it’s kind of nice to be able to keep track of your reps and workouts in one central location on your smartphone.
The Bowflex 56o dumbbells are an amazing set of weights and are a great option for anyone who is looking for a multi-functional set. They have more than enough weight for even seasoned workout enthusiasts, can be adjusted quickly, and at under $500 they’re a true value when you consider all of the weights you’ll be replacing with this single set.
